National Cancer Survivors Day 2021

June 6, 2021 is a special holiday for us to honor and encourage those fighting cancer with National Cancer Survivors Day. Celebrated annually on the first Sunday of June, National Cancer Survivors Day is more than just a day for those who are in remission, it celebrates all persons who are fighting cancer actively, because anyone who is a fighting is a survivor.

“ It’s a day for everyone to join in solidarity with cancer survivors around the world, to raise awareness of the ongoing challenges cancer survivors face because of their disease, and – most importantly – to celebrate life,” according to the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation website.

The holiday also acknowledges the role of loved ones like friends and family in fighting cancer and health care providers and partners who help support those battling cancer.

In the United States, an estimated 1.9 million people will be diagnosed with cancer this year, and around 600,000 will lose the fight to cancer in 2021 as well, according to the American Cancer Society. The prevalence of cancer in the U.S. makes it that much more important to be aware of the ways in which cancer affects so many peoples’ daily lives.
